Our Approach

A retailer's honest account of how our products hold up outdoors

My Luxe Backyard is owned and operated by Navarro Living LLC. We are a retailer, not a manufacturer. Every pergola, gazebo, furniture set, fire pit, sauna, and cold plunge we sell is built by an outdoor living brand or authorized distributor and is intended, by design, to be used outdoors across the Continental United States.

Outdoor exposure is not optional for these products, and it is not risk-free. Sun, rain, humidity, wind, salt air, freeze-thaw cycles, and UV radiation all act on materials over time in ways that no product, regardless of marketing language, can fully resist forever. This page exists so you know, before you buy, exactly what "all-weather," "waterproof," or "rust-resistant" means for the specific item you're looking at, what maintenance keeps it performing as intended, and what falls outside normal, expected weathering.

We wrote this page specifically for the products we actually sell, using the manufacturer specifications and materials listed on each product page. It isn't a copied template, and we update it whenever our product range or supplier materials change.

What our weather and durability terms actually mean

Words like "waterproof" and "all-weather" get used loosely across the outdoor furniture industry. Here's exactly what each term means when it appears on a product page or in this policy, so you can shop with accurate expectations.

Weather-Resistant / All-Weather

The item is engineered to be left outdoors through ordinary rain, sun, wind, and temperature swings without needing to be brought inside after every use. It does not mean immune to every weather event or maintenance-free forever.

Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant

"Waterproof" describes a component, such as a hardtop roof panel or a sealed chiller housing, that sheds standing water under normal use. "Water-resistant" fabric, like canopy or cushion covers, repels light rain but is not designed for prolonged soaking or submersion.

Rust-Resistant / Powder-Coated

Steel and iron parts described as rust-resistant carry a protective powder coat, galvanized layer, or similar finish that slows corrosion under normal outdoor exposure. It reduces, rather than eliminates, the risk of rust, especially where the finish is scratched or in coastal, high-salt-air areas.

UV-Stabilized / Fade-Resistant

Fabrics, plastics, and finishes treated to slow color fading and material breakdown from sustained sun exposure. Some gradual fading and softening over multiple seasons in full sun is expected and is not a manufacturing defect.

Weather & Durability By Product Type

How each category actually performs outdoors, and what to expect over time

Every product type on this site is built from different materials and responds to weather differently. Here is a transparent, category-specific account of expected performance, based on the materials and specifications listed on the individual product page for the item you're viewing.

Pergolas & Louvered Roofs

Aluminum frame · waterproof or retractable canopy

Aluminum frames resist rust by nature and hold up well to rain, humidity, and sun without the corrosion risk of untreated steel. Louvered aluminum roof panels are engineered to shed rainwater when closed, but are not intended to be left closed during high wind or severe storms. Retractable fabric canopies are water-resistant, not waterproof, and should be retracted before heavy rain, high wind, or snow to avoid pooling or fabric strain.

Gazebos

Galvanized steel or wood-grain aluminum roof panels

Double-roof galvanized steel panels and wood-grain aluminum finishes are built to shed rain and resist corrosion under ordinary outdoor exposure. Mesh netting and privacy curtains are water-resistant fabric, not waterproof, and should be tied back or removed ahead of storms to prevent tearing. Structures anchored per the included instructions perform as intended in normal wind; unanchored or improperly secured units are vulnerable to tipping in gusts.

Patio Furniture Sets

Aluminum/steel frames · synthetic rattan & wicker

Aluminum frames and synthetic (PE) rattan and wicker weaves are designed to stay outdoors year-round and resist splitting, rust, and fading better than natural wicker. Cushions and cushion covers are water-resistant fabric over foam; foam retains moisture if soaked and left wet, which can lead to mildew. Cushions should be stored dry or covered during extended rain and through winter in colder regions.

Fire Pits

Powder-coated steel & iron, propane or wood-burning

Powder-coated steel and iron fire pit bodies resist surface rust under normal outdoor use, but the coating can wear at high-heat contact points over repeated burns, exposing bare metal that will corrode faster if left uncovered. Propane models' burner and ignition components should be protected from standing water and are not intended for use or storage submerged or during active rain. A weatherproof cover, sold separately unless stated on the product page, meaningfully extends the finish's life.

Saunas

Finland pine or cedar cabin · ETL-certified heater

Finland pine and cedar are naturally rot- and decay-resistant softwoods well suited to year-round outdoor exposure, and both will weather to a natural gray patina over time if left untreated, which is cosmetic and expected. The wood exterior is designed to shed rain; the electrical heater and control components are ETL-certified for outdoor-rated safety when installed and covered exactly as instructed, but must never be exposed to standing water, flooding, or use during active precipitation.

Cold Plunges

Insulated tub shell · electrical chiller/compressor

Insulated tub shells and plumbing fittings are built for continuous outdoor water contact by design. The chiller and compressor unit, however, is an electrical appliance: it must be sited on a level, well-drained surface, protected from direct flooding, and, in freezing regions, drained or run per the manufacturer's cold-weather instructions to prevent frozen-line damage that is not a covered defect.

Exact material specifications, IP/weatherproof ratings, and manufacturer care instructions for the item you're considering are listed on that product's page and in the documentation packed with your order. Email support@myluxebackyard.com with the product name if you'd like these details before you buy.
Care & Maintenance

Simple upkeep that keeps every product performing as designed

None of our products require complicated maintenance, but a few minutes of seasonal care meaningfully extends the life and appearance of every category we sell.

Routine care, year-round

  • Rinse frames, roof panels, and fire pit bodies with plain water to clear pollen, dust, and salt residue before it can etch or corrode a finish.
  • Dry cushions and fabric surfaces fully before storing them, and store them somewhere ventilated rather than sealed in plastic.
  • Check anchor bolts, ground stakes, and hardware on pergolas and gazebos each season and re-tighten anything that has loosened.
  • Reapply a UV-protectant or wood conditioner to sauna cabins and untreated wood surfaces if you want to slow natural graying.

Before severe weather arrives

  • Close and secure retractable pergola canopies; open canopies can trap wind load and strain the mechanism or frame.
  • Bring cushions, curtains, and any loose accessories indoors or into a shed ahead of forecast storms, high wind, or hail.
  • Shut off and disconnect propane fire pits before storms, and never leave an active flame unattended in wind.
  • In freezing regions, drain cold plunge lines and disconnect exterior power per the manufacturer's winterizing instructions.
Regional Climate Considerations

What to expect based on where in the Continental U.S. you're installing

We ship to the Continental United States only, and climate varies enormously across that footprint. These are general regional patterns to plan around, not a substitute for checking your local weather history, building code, and HOA requirements.

Coastal & High-Salinity Areas

E.g., Gulf & Atlantic coastlines, Pacific coast

Salt air accelerates corrosion on any metal finish, including powder-coated and galvanized steel. Rinsing frames and fire pit bodies with fresh water regularly is especially important in these areas, and hardware may need more frequent inspection than the same product would in an inland location.

Freeze-Thaw & Snow-Load Regions

E.g., Northeast, Midwest, Mountain West

Repeated freezing and thawing stresses wood joints, cushion foam, and standing water in fire pit bowls or cold plunge plumbing. Draining water-holding components, covering wood surfaces, and checking manufacturer snow-load ratings for hardtop gazebo and pergola roofs before winter accumulation matters most here.

High-UV & Arid Regions

E.g., Southwest, interior California, high plains

Sustained, intense sun accelerates fabric fading and can dry out and crack untreated wood faster than in milder climates. Rotating or shading cushions when not in use and conditioning sauna wood more frequently helps offset accelerated UV exposure in these areas.

Hurricane & High-Wind Regions

E.g., Gulf Coast, Southeast Atlantic seaboard

Structures like pergolas and gazebos must be anchored according to the manufacturer's instructions and, where required, local building code before a storm season begins. Retract canopies, remove curtains and cushions, and secure or store lightweight fire pits and furniture ahead of any named storm or high-wind advisory.

Legal Framework

The federal, state, and local rules behind this policy

This page is written to operate within, not around, the laws that already protect you as a buyer and govern how outdoor structures are installed.

Truthful Advertising & Product Safety

FTC Act, Section 5
Federal law prohibits unfair or deceptive claims about a product's durability, weather resistance, or performance. We describe weather performance in factual, verifiable terms rather than absolute or unqualified claims.
Consumer Product Safety Act
Products with electrical or gas components, such as sauna heaters, cold plunge chillers, and propane fire pits, must meet applicable federal safety standards and carry the required certification markings.
No unlawful tie-ins
Statements on this page do not modify or limit any manufacturer's written warranty terms, which are addressed separately in our Warranty & Warranty Disclaimer Policy.

State & Local Requirements

Building codes & wind/snow-load zones
Wind speed and snow-load design requirements for permanently anchored structures like gazebos and pergolas vary by state, county, and municipality under locally adopted versions of the International Building Code. Confirming local requirements and any permit before installation is the buyer's responsibility.
Implied warranty of merchantability
Every state provides an automatic implied warranty that a product will function as reasonably expected for its type. Ordinary weathering described on this page is not, by itself, a breach of that warranty.
HOA & local ordinances
Homeowners' association rules and local zoning ordinances may independently restrict structure size, placement, or appearance. Navarro Living LLC is not a party to and does not verify compliance with these private or municipal rules.

This section is provided for transparency and general information. It is not legal advice, and requirements can vary by state, county, and municipality. If you have questions about how these rules apply to your specific location, we'd encourage you to contact your local building department or a qualified professional.

What this policy does not claim

No product sold on this site is marketed as indestructible, maintenance-free, or immune to extreme weather events. This policy does not promise protection against named storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, wildfire, flooding, or damage from improper installation, anchoring, or use outside a product's stated purpose or load limits.

This doesn't reduce your other rights

Nothing here limits your rights under our separate Warranty & Warranty Disclaimer Policy, our 30-Day Return & Refund Policy, or your statutory implied warranty rights under state law, all of which continue to apply on top of anything written on this page.
